Centi Palace

Centi Palace (Palazzo Centi) is one of the most important monuments of the L’Aquila Baroque. Built between 1752 and 1776, it has a rectangular plan on three levels, a large entrance gallery with an inner courtyard and a monumental staircase.

The building envelope is highly distinctive: the main façade is divided into three parts and features an impressive balcony overlooking the majestic portal, supported by three pairs of Borrominian-style columns rotated by 45°. A unique feature of the palace is that it stands isolated on all four sides of its plot.

ASDEA won the tender with its technical proposal and carried out the structural design for the strengthening of the building, which was heavily damaged by the earthquake of 6 April 2009. The proposed structural interventions aim to repair the damage and improve the seismic behaviour of the building in accordance with current regulations, with particular care for the protection and conservation of its valuable and historic-artistic elements.

The approach was one of minimal intervention, using innovative, durable and reversible methods and techniques compatible with the material and structural identity of the building, in compliance with both the requirements of the Superintendence for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Abruzzo and the basic principles of restoration.
