Logica3

Logica3 is custom software developed by ASDEA for Logica Tre. It is designed for engineers who want to analyse reinforced concrete beam-column joints and design their structural strengthening with the patented SIS.MI.C.A.® method. Analysis and design are carried out in accordance with the Italian Ministerial Decree of 17/01/2018 and Circular no. 21 of 21/01/2019, and are supported by full-scale experimental tests.

Since a structural model of the building is not always available, the software offers two analysis methods. The Analytical Method (MA) studies the behaviour of the joint from the internal forces and therefore requires the global structural model. The Simplified Method (MS) is designed for local interventions and studies the joint with a few input data, without a global model.

Corner and facade joints are designed in the same file, entering the elements from a CSV file or several at once. Starting from the geometry of the elements converging in the joint, the material properties and the internal forces, the software analyses the existing joints with a fibre model and studies their behaviour once strengthened.

For vulnerability assessments the equivalent stirrup is particularly useful: the software returns the diameter, design yield stress and spacing of a stirrup equivalent to the strengthening. These values are imported into the model of the existing structure to analyse the design state and obtain the αPGA value, which quantifies the improvement achieved for the building.

The workflow:

  • Preset: choice of the analysis method, analytical or simplified.
  • Materials: database of concretes, steels and anchoring system conditions.
  • Customisation: geometry of the elements converging in the joint, strengthening and anchor properties, with commands that extend the choices made for one joint to all the others.
  • Loads: internal forces transferred to the joint by the column and the beams (N, Vcx, Vcy, Mby, Mbx in the analytical method; N in the simplified method).
  • Results for unstrengthened joints: shear-tension and shear-compression checks with the failure mode and warnings on any problems in the beams.
  • Results for strengthened joints: detailed report for each joint, equivalent stirrup and a “Modify strengthening” command to adjust all the joints that fail the checks at once.
  • Report: strengthening preview, calculation report in PDF and construction drawings.

Each SIS.MI.C.A.® plate carries a tag with the joint ID assigned during design, so every element can be identified and traced on site.
