GENESIS: Gestione del rischio sismico per la valorizzazione turistica dei centri storici del Mezzogiorno

The GENESIS project (Seismic risk management for the tourism enhancement of historic centres in Southern Italy) aims to develop an IT platform capable of collecting information on heritage of historic and cultural interest and processing it at increasing levels of accuracy, from the territorial and urban scale (historic centre) to that of the single building. The platform makes it possible to perform the following analyses:

• at the territorial scale, the simulation of damage scenarios to support emergency management;
• at the urban scale, the planning of seismic risk reduction measures;
• at the scale of the single building, the development of structural behaviour models to assess static safety and seismic vulnerability, as well as any interventions required on the basis of these analyses.

The project includes the development of numerous case studies (demonstrators) of characteristic historic centres in the southern regions, with full-scale experimental tests, and the development of innovative products and new methodologies for the protection, safeguarding and conservation of historic and monumental buildings.
