St. Stephen Church Deanery

ASDEA was responsible for the design of the steel structure and the reinforced concrete structure of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Otuoke. The structural design of the St. Stephen Church Deanery required different structural solutions for the exterior and interior parts.

The outer shell of the building consists of a complex double-curved steel gridshell with stiffening arches reaching a maximum span of 60 m and a maximum height of 37 m.

The internal load-bearing structures consist of reinforced concrete walls and columns supporting the floors, made of solid reinforced concrete slabs, and the tiered seating, built with steel trusses and steel-concrete composite slabs.

The entire design was facilitated and optimised by the BIM process, which cut design time by 50% compared with CAD-based design and provided greater awareness of the spatial layout of buildings and structures, thanks to an overall view of the project.
