STKO

STKO, the Scientific ToolKit for OpenSees, is an advanced earthquake engineering software for structural and geotechnical analysis. It is a graphical user interface that acts as a complete pre-processor and post-processor for OpenSees.

The most advanced pre- and post-processor for OpenSees

STKO

STKO allows engineers, researchers and students to create, analyze and visualize complex structural, seismic and geotechnical models, without needing to write TCL scripts manually. You can visually build, validate, run and interpret simulations of complex structures and soil-structure interactions, streamlining your workflow from concept to result.

Features

  • Pre- and post-processor

A single environment to create, edit and validate sophisticated models, with no manual TCL scripting required.

  • Python scripting

A Python interface for both pre- and post-processing: automate repetitive tasks, run parametric studies and integrate AI algorithms.

  • CAD-based modeling

Work visually with 2D and 3D geometries and import industry-standard formats such as .igs and .stp.

  • Advanced analysis configuration

Define loads, boundary conditions and staged construction, import external data and monitor progress in real time.

  • OpenSees integration

STKO automatically generates TCL input files and manages HDF5-based output databases.

  • Post-processing and visualization

Contour plots, vector diagrams and charts, animated time-history responses for dynamic and seismic analysis, and image and animation export for reports.

  • Parallel computing and HPC

STKO automates model partitioning and leverages OpenSeesMP and high-performance computing resources, for simulations with millions of degrees of freedom.

  • Open-source solver library

The External Solver Library is public on GitHub: program new automations and link new OpenSees components.

Preprocessor

The STKO preprocessor features all your standard CAD modeling tools, a wide variety of meshes, and ALL materials, elements, conditions and interactions offered in OpenSees.

Postprocessor

The postprocessor turns analysis results into impactful charts, plots and animations that help you see the full picture behind the numbers.

Advantages

Complete

The only pre- and post-processor that includes all materials, elements, conditions and interactions available in OpenSees.

Fast

Complex analyses of structures modeled with sophisticated micro-modeling techniques run quickly, thanks to mixed explicit-implicit IMPLEX solutions.

Accessible

The graphical interface removes the steep learning curve of code-based modeling.

Extensible

The Python interface and the open-source solver library let you build custom modeling tools, parametric analyses and AI codes.

Integrated System STKO + MonStr

STKO was extended for use in the MonStr system to work with AI: the digital twin learns the structure over time, resulting in a model that is highly representative of real conditions. Sensor data are written in the HDF5 database, the same database used by STKO.
